Nearly three decades ago, the founders realized that the communities in western Wake County had no resource available to serve families whose child had a special educational need. Fortunately for these communities, these insightful and caring individuals worked diligently to organize and launch a school to meet those children’s needs.
Their vision is plainly stated in the mission statement of the Center: “To provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where children with special and typical needs can grow and learn together in acceptance of one another”.
White Plains Children’s Center is centered on the inclusive classroom setting for children special needs along-side children who are developing typically. Years and years of experience have proven how advantageous this setting is for both groups of children.
In the nearly three decades since its founding, White Plains Children’s Center, remains the only resource in western Wake County for these families to obtain a quality special education program for children ages 2-5. This program, over its long and successful history, is part of the infrastructure of the education system in Wake County.
The successes of nearly three decades, with hundreds of children served, conveys the importance of the program to these communities. Children who attended that first year, 1982, are the young adults today!
We are exceptionally proud to have served our community for so many years. We know we’ve made a difference for hundreds of children and families. We are poised to continue this exceptional service for thirty more years. Our mission is alive….our children are growing and learning together in acceptance of one another!
How can our communities ensure this invaluable resource is never lost? The citizens of western Wake County must be willing to make an investment to keep the Center viable to serve hundreds more.
We are asking you to make an investment to underwrite the success of White Plains Children’s Center for the future.
Investment takes many forms….such as time, talent and/or financial resources. Much of the success revolves around volunteers who have time to give and who have special talents; from service on the Board of Directors to reading stories in the classrooms. Those with financial resources are valuable as well. Without valuable financial support, we are unable to provide the most up-to-date materials for our children. We must trust our investors to sustain this valuable community resource.
Please consider making an investment in the community where you live, work and play. One way is to become our friend!

We are looking to the community to invest in this highly revered resource; however, we are more interested in you, as a friend. If you are investing in real estate, stocks, bonds or anything, you always want to know more about how your investment will ‘turn out’. Is it a good investment or a great investment? Before you invest in WPCC, we think you should know more about us and for us to know you!
The best way to know everything about us (your investment) is for us to become friends! We invite you to ‘friend us’ right now. Here’s our definition of being good friends…please allow us to get to know you.
Good friends stay in touch—we will reach out to you once per quarter to share a one-page newsletter focusing on children’s stories.
Good friends remember each other on special occasions—we will remember you during the Holidays and on your birthday (provided you give us the day).
Good friends share special times together—we will invite you to join the Parents, Staff and families once per quarter at our Together Times. . .our Parents and Staff provide the food! We will invite you to visit the Center and witness what great things are going on with our children. We will invite you to our graduation event. Attend when you can; but always wish a ‘good time’ for all at every event!
Good friends lend a helping hand—we will invite you to volunteer at the Center to read a story to a child or to the class, to sit in a nap room during a staff meeting, or assist a teacher. When you can assist financially, we greatly appreciate that kind of help as well.
Good friends spend time together—we will send you a special invitation to participate in the events sponsored by the Center.
Good friends keep each other informed—we will share the annual report with you.
Good friends are always there—we hope our friendship will start today and we’ll always be there for each other!

Most people would truly like to ‘give back’ to the community. The problem is they don’t know what’s involved before they actually get to the first meeting and often times don’t get involved because they are afraid of the unknown and overcommitting. Here is an overview of becoming involved as a volunteer on the Board of Directors.
The Center is governed by a 20 member Board that is comprised of professionals from the community at-large; including former/current education professionals. The Board population is diverse—in race, gender, profession and expertise.
The Board convenes monthly for a 1 hour meeting, with only 10 meetings each fiscal year. The business meetings focus on topics affecting the over-all welfare of the program. The Board members serve on one committee. The Board members then choose a committee to serve on. How often that committee meets depends on the business at hand. The meeting frequency might be from once per month to once per quarter. Business matters from each committee are presented to the Board when decision-making requires Board approval.
The members of the Board of Directors are individuals who have a heart for children and for service to this community. Current Board members are counting on individuals, like you, to bring your expertise, your leadership, and your love of children to the Board. By working together this program can continue its mission: “to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where children with special and typical needs can grow and learn together in acceptance of one another”.
Service on this Board of Directors is an honor and a privilege. You will leave more enriched and blessed than when you arrived!
If you are interested in giving back to the community through service as a volunteer on our Board, please send an email to board@whiteplainschildrenscenter.org
An annual campaign for any organization differs from a fundraising event. An annual campaign focuses on building long-term supporters of the organization. Those who participate in the annual campaign normally have a vested interest in the success of the organization; therefore, s/he is gracious and generous with financially supporting the organization.
Certainly, all fundraising events do support the organization, but most likely those events are intended to raise small dollar amounts through BBQ dinners, silent auctions, or some type ticket sales. These are a one-time contribution as opposed to a long-term commitment, as is typical in an annual campaign.
Each year, WPCC will focus the annual campaign around a specific need or theme. Those committed to the success of the organization will typically make a financial contribution of a sizeable amount. The contribution can be paid on a quarterly, semi-annual or on an annual basis.
The amount of the contribution (tax-deductible) is not as important as the commitment to consistency of the support—year-in and year-out. Whether the gift is made quarterly, semi-annually or on an annual basis, WPCC will know you believe in our Mission, in our long range plans and our annual success!
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”.
Won’t you consider “making a life” with your commitment to White Plains Children’s Center?

Gift-giving is a world-wide tradition….birthday, holiday, marriage, retirement, friendship, and many other reasons. No matter where you live and the customs of the culture, gift-giving plays an important part in peoples’ lives.
Some have suggested that it’s not the actual gift that is important, but the act of giving. Others believe that giving a gift honors the recipient, communicates love from one to another, and/or simply brightens the day of both the giver and receiver.
While gift-giving often follows a cultural tradition, those traditions are exceptionally important to both the person receiving and to the person giving.
The American culture is steeped in gift-giving of material things. However, there are times when it is more meaningful to give a gift that honors someone, memorializes or commemorates someone, lends a helping hand to those in need as an act of kindness, and sometimes, the love and honor is demonstrated by leaving a legacy for the benefit of others long after one’s death.
Whether you choose to steward your resources by providing scholarship aid to families in need, to assist teachers who seek the next level of education or a gift of any kind and for any reason, we have several professionals who can work with you and your personal advisor to create a gift that will make a difference to the life of a child and the Center for generations to come.
WPCC is providing an opportunity for gift-giving to those who desire to give a gift that is non-material and who are passionate about the continued success of this time-tested Children’s Center. We have an excellent track record of spending our financial resources wisely. We value every gift…large or small.
Please select a type of gift you would like to make by clicking on the Donate form below. After your gift is processed through PayPal, you will receive a tax-deductible acknowledgement via email for your tax return purposes. Whether you make one donation per year or several, we sincerely appreciate your kindness and generosity!
All gifts through our website are secure transactions via PayPal.
Thank you in advance and we promise to use the gift wisely!
Remembers and honors a deceased relative or friend. What better way to honor a loved one than to make a contribution to a first-class program that has served families since 1982!
Remembers, honors and gives respect to an important person or an important event. Some examples: men and women serving or who have served in the military, persons who have made great contributions to city, state or nation, persons who have made a difference in the life of another person(s), significant times in the history of the U.S., like 9/11, or Veteran’s Day.
Other specific dates that may be important to you, like the birth of a child or grandchild, marriage of someone important to you, retirement date of friend or relative, anniversary of friend, relative or self, anniversary of cancer survivor, the birthday of a child, friend, relative, spouse or co-worker… and so many other significant times in one’s life are times of commemorative gift-giving.
All gifts will be added to the scholarship account and will only be used for families who need assistance. All children deserve the benefits of a 5-star-rated program. Your generosity can ensure a child can enroll at WPCC and that family will have the peace of mind their child is well cared for!
All gifts will be used to defray the cost of courses our teachers must take for renewal of a teaching certificate, acquisition of new credentials or state-mandated training for 5-star licensure. Our teachers are making a difference for children and families every single day. Can you help make a difference for them?
All gifts will be used to supplement the cost of critical programs such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and other services for children with disabilities. Often a child needs a therapy not covered by other sources and the family is unable to pay for the additional therapy. Your gift will only be used to assist with a child’s therapy!
Research has shown time and again that children learn through play. We partnered with the Natural Learning Institute at NC State University to design these one-of-a-kind playgrounds. When completed, our children will play in an environment created with the idea that learning should be fun! All gifts will be used to defray the cost of renovating the toddler and the pre-school playgrounds. Thank you so much for your generosity!
There are many methods that permit your financial resources to be wisely used after your death. There is no better way to give thanks for one’s own success in life than to leave something behind….in perpetuity!
To leave a legacy means first understanding the options available. To explore those options with a licensed professional, please contact a member of our board who will provide the contact information of the professional. The email is: board@whiteplainschildrenscenter.org
Thank you for your interest in gift planning.
